Our Story
Mike and Jackie discovered CBD in 2017 and were deeply impressed by the positive effects that it had on their respective wellbeing. Mike found that it improved the quality of his sleep and also the recovery time after exercise, whereas Jackie found that she felt significantly more centered and had a greater sense of wellbeing. From that moment they made it their mission to learn more and understand the full potential of this incredible plant.
Together they started to do their own research, and through chatting with friends they realised that there were common issues with sleep, anxiety, injury or problems with gut health, and that CBD had incredible potential to change lives for the better.
As a farmer Mike was also particularly encouraged to learn about what a significant addition it would be to the farm’s crop rotation due to its wide variety of uses, and also its excellent environmental credentials which would help to deliver on Mike’s passion to improve the farm’s sustainability.
Everyone agreed that a lack of knowledge was having a real impact on people using their CBD products properly, not knowing what to look for in a CBD product, or being missold a CBD product entirely. With a myriad of products available and no clear guidance on labelling the CBD market can be a confusing one to navigate.
At CROP England it is our mission to give you clear, unbiased knowledge on hemp and CBD products to enable you to elevate your wellness. We are with you every step of the way with a dedicated team who are passionate about making you feel at the top of your game.

The Farm
The farm is a fourth-generation arable enterprise growing, wheat, malting barley, oil seed rape, beans, sugar beet and potatoes, and now of course, hemp. On his return to Lincolnshire and the farming business, Mike recognised that the successful future of the business would need to be aligned with a more sustainable approach to farming.
The majority of the farm comprises mineral-rich limestone brashly land which is ideal for growing root crops, but has a tendency to dry out quickly, particularly in drought conditions.
Introducing the growing of “cover crops” on the land immediately following harvest in order to encourage root systems to be developed through the soil profiles and for the green vegetation to be incorporated back into the soils so that it enhances the soil’s biodiversity as it decomposes.
It became clear to Mike that in order to be successful in improving the farm’s sustainability, he would have to increase the organic matter in the farm’s principal asset; its soils. In order to do this, Mike looked at all aspects of the business, which included;
- Improving soil structure by reducing compaction. New tractors were bought which could automatically inflate or deflate their tyres depending on a particular act of cultivation. This not only reduces compaction but also helps to make the tractors run more efficiently and use less diesel.
- Bringing-in and spreading manure from cattle and chickens to improve soil biodiversity, and to reduce reliance on artificial fertilisers.
- New machinery was acquired to minimise soil disturbance during cultivations which protects and enhances the soil structure.
- Introducing the growing of ‘cover crops’ on the land immediately following harvest in order to encourage root systems to be developed through the soil profiles and for the green vegetation to be incorporated back into the soils so that it enhances the soil’s biodiversity as it decomposes.
- This multi-strand approach has done much to improve the overall health of the soils, and to reduce the farms reliance on artificial fertilisers and agri-chemicals allowing the business to become more environmentally friendly and bio-diverse. In respect of the hemp crops, this project has enabled us to produce hemp without any Agri-chemicals being applied at all.
